The ability to shift into an alternative animal, in this rp, is optional. It is also optional to consider one's shifting ability genetic or a blessing. In the past, the person before us considered it a blessing from the 'gods'. Those who are able to shift are often shunned, banished, and/or disowned by family, friends, and former community, although some can be willing to keep their shifter population as long as they are hidden from the rest who oppose them. Shifters can also be seen as a threat to the mass population of normal human beings, and can be sought after by others. These others could range from scientists wondering what makes these strange shifters tick, or blood-thirsty people who want nothing but all shifters dead.
